Normen bevestigen kwaliteit en knowhow. Ze helpen poorten te openen naar andere markten voor producten en diensten. In het verleden was de termijn die verstreek tussen het opstellen en het publiceren van normen een bron van frustratie. Sinds 1 april 2021 is daar verandering in gekomen door de invoering van nieuwe publicatieregels. De aankondiging en de modaliteiten voor het openbaar onderzoek voor ontwerpen van Belgische normen worden voortaan net als de normen zelf gepubliceerd op de website van het Bureau voor Normalisatie (NBN) en niet langer in het Belgisch Staatsblad.
Voortaan is de standaard termijn voor een openbaar onderzoek twee maanden. De Belgische normen moeten ook niet langer in een koninklijk besluit gehomologeerd worden. Aldus wordt de ontwikkelingsperiode voor een Belgische norm met een half jaar ingekort.
